Patapsco Literary Festival welcomes authors to Main Street, Ellicott City. With three stages in town, we have a diverse group of authors sharing their work and discussing themes in the literary world.

Backwater Books started the Patapsco Literary Festival in 2025. Over 25 authors joined the festival in Ellicott City for readings, signings, and panel discussions.

Matt and Alli Krist founded Backwater Books in November 2022. As former teachers, building community was at the forefront of their business model. They host a number of community events like open mics, live music, and bookclubs. In 2025, Alli decided to organize the Patapsco Literary Festival.
